CANVAS REMOVAL AND STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS

These are only general instructions. Since every awning is different, these instructions may not apply to your cover. Valrose is not responsible for the use of these instructions. Please call us at 305-893-5553 with your questions before you take down your awning.

Canvas awnings are designed to be removed in the event that strong winds, hurricane, or any other threatening situation develops which would require the canvas to be taken down and reinstalled at a later date.

CANVAS AWNINGS SHALL BE REMOVED WHEN WINDS REACH 75MPH.  SOME FRAMES WITHOUT CANVAS COVERINGS WILL SUSTAIN UP TO 140 MILE PER HOUR WINDS.

  1. Using a utility knife, cut all rope of the double laces around the rafters.
  2. Cut all lacing rope around the sides that tie to the edge of the frame. It is very important that the canvas be protected at all times while cutting the lacing rope to avoid damage to the fabric. Once the cord is all loose, follow instructions depending on the type of awnings you have.
  3. Most covers are attached with aluminum railing at the top and or sides. The cover needs to be slid out slowly off the tracks by one side. Canvas track may be bent on the ends or have screws to prevent canvas from sliding out.
  4. For carport and freestanding awnings. Lift up the 4 corners of the cover over the body of the awning and slowly pull the cord out of the frame.
  5. Once cover is on the floor, fold and store in a dry place to avoid mildew from forming (if cover is wet, dry it before folding to prevent mildew). Also, make sure the covers are not cut, ripped or that sharp objects go through the fabric while folding or while in storage. Always store on top shelf.
  6. Remember, that if in the removal process high winds are encountered, the cover may flap and rip away form the frame as you cut the rope. The amount of people needed for this job will vary according to weather and jobsite conditions.
